What Is Homeschool Curriculum? Could MAD Society Work For You?

The definition of homeschool curriculum is… a collection of resources used to teach a child at home that might include books, media, activities, assignments and assessments.

I know one of the main reasons homeschoolers like to go to a convention is because they actually want to pick up and put their hands on resources they are considering purchasing and it’s hard to commit to something without actually looking at what you’re going to buy.

Parents and kids get to create their own curriculum collection by making selections around their child's interests, long term goals, people groups they want to be a part of, jobs they might be interested in, topics they want any to explore, areas that will be a challenge or highly useful in creating the unique person each child is designed to be.

Sometimes people pick a curriculum that has all the subjects they want to teach under one curriculum company brand, or you can also join a homeschool co-op that provides the entire curriculum for your children, but most homeschoolers pick and choose from all over the place to compile and education experience that fits their family and even different ones for each kids and adds 'à la cart' style co-ops and things like private lessons to round out their child’s education. Don’t let this scare you! Simply be willing to make changes as you see that either you or your homeschoolers are stressed, struggling or bored in an area.

This is why it’s crucial to have a community of people you can go to ask questions and resources. The first place to start for community opportunities would be Facebook. Ask all your friends which Facebook homeschool groups they’re part of.

Then you’ll want to join more casual social media platforms to ask questions, for friendships, and to get a good laugh from time to time about homeschooling.

I hope this video will give you an experience that feels like you got to pick up my handbook, one of my plays and a Creative Writing Escape Room in person as you are considering adding Music, Art & Drama "MAD" Society to your kids education.

I never set out to be a “curriculum writer” and I’m not exactly sure what I’ve created counts as curriculum but it’s what I used to bring the arts to my children and their friends and it’s been working for five years.

I realized that my kids and their friends needed an artistic "goal" to showcase their talents in their gifts. I believe everybody has gifts that require a safe space to develop, showcase and explore those gifts. This is why I created Music, Art & Drama "MAD" Society, plays, skits and creative writing escape rooms plus Pinterest and YouTube accounts to support MAD Society clubs.

I’ll be pretending you showed up at my booth at a homeschool convention and I’m going to say to you… How would you like to turn your kids hobbies and talents into artistic experience to satisfy all your electives For home school family, and have a curriculum to back it up?

Then, if we were together in person, I could get to know you a bit. You could tell me your unique story and journey with Art and describe your children and homeschool journey. Then I would have the opportunity to imagine how a customized Music, Art & Drama "MAD" Society curriculum and club to fit  your students in a way that would meet all of your needs.

Music, Art & Drama "MAD" Society which is a handbook (show) theater Content (show) And party activities to start a small scale, theater club experience for all kinds of students in all kinds of settings.

If you want to add a Music, Art & Drama "MAD" Society to your family or your community here’s where you should start…find my 30 minute YouTube video for using a simple comedy skit script with your kids in your living room to easily provide the arts for your children. For the $17 it takes to buy a MAD Society skit you will be getting a performance that is written like an event, YouTube video support, free art & theatre downloads, pre-stocked Pinterest boards and more. The handbook (and including other kids in your MAD Society experience) is optional.

MAD Society goals are to be a leadership developing, identity discovering, talent utilizing. It’s not about a perfect performance or perfect art, it’s about the process and what that can provide students.

In the process of finding out what you like and what you’re good at and where you’re supposed to spend your time should be perused purposefully. A huge part of that process is eliminating things you DON’T like. To find out what you DON'T like mean you must try new things.

We spent our whole lives, having new experiences, changing and growing, discovering, contributing...etc. Your homeschool journey should reflect that. The Bible promises us that we have the ability to be at peace. Attached faith to your choices and be flexible.

As a mom of five kids that are all teens and early 20,s my first advice for parents is to keep your child’s heart. Don’t ever let anything you do with regards to their education destroy the pursuit of a healthy relationship with your child.

The amount of knowledge is endless, so embrace and enjoy the freedom, flexibility and fun that comes with the privilege of being able to homeschool.
